Tell your elected officials to take urgent action to protect Oregon’s already overburdened communities from the harms of factory farms!

For over three decades, Oregon has failed to take meaningful action to address the sources of pollution in the state’s three groundwater management areas, particularly the Lower Umatilla Basin groundwater management area. Factory farms are a major source of nitrate contamination in these areas due to the excessive amounts of manure that they produce – manure that is largely untreated. While the work to ensure communities have access to clean drinking water is ongoing, it is a common sense step to prevent new and expanding factory farms in areas with existing groundwater contamination.

Drinking water contamination in eastern Oregon has reached crisis levels – and it’s time to take action to protect our water. That’s why we are running a moratorium on new or expanding factory farms in Oregon’s groundwater management areas during the 2025 legislative session. Read the factsheet here.
