On Thursday October 7th the Stand Up To Factory Farms coalition met with Governor Kate Brown and staff to ask Governor Brown to enact an immediate mega-dairy moratorium to protect Oregon’s air, water, climate, rural communities, small farmers and animal welfare. While interested, the Governor did not commit to supporting a moratorium after hearing from coalition experts, advocates representing Oregon’s Latino communities and impacted community members from Morrow and Umatilla counties. Oregonians have been calling on Governor Brown to address the harms of mega-dairies since the disastrous Lost Valley Farm mega-dairy was approved by the state in 2017. In the last 6 months Governor Brown has heard from over 2,000 Oregonians via emails, calls, and petitions urging her to take action to protect Oregon. We plan to continue to urge Governor Brown and Oregon’s elected officials to enact a mega-dairy moratorium for Oregon’s future, and hope you’ll continue to stand with us!
